Prince Harry vs. The First Amendment

Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, recently criticized The First Amendment on the Armchair Expert Podcast, where he talked about the paparazzi. The Duke of Sussex described The First Amendment as 'bonkers', explaining that he believes we live in a society where certain aspects of the media are redefining the meaning of privacy.

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle moved to the United States in March 2020, after moving out of England and stepping down from The Royal Family. Since living in the United States, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are discovering that aside from The Royal Family, there is a lot to criticize about the United States as well.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been complaining a lot about privacy by publicly explaining their issues about privacy matters through social media. In the Armchair Expert Podcast, Prince Harry talks with podcast host, Dax Shepard about his concerns about the paparazzi invading his family's privacy and the privacy of other celebrities as well. The Duke of Sussex believes the paparazzi has gotten out of hand because his family rarely has privacy due to constantly being filmed and photographed every time they leave the house. Prince Harry revealed that his son Archie was photographed by the paparazzi on his first day of school. Prince Harry was upset by this because his son does not get a say or choice about being followed by the paparazzi. The Duke of Sussex believes that the paparazzi is violating his family's privacy and abusing The First Amendment.

Prince Harry and his concerns about The First Amendment relate to the 6 Freedoms of The First Amendment, specifically, the right to freedom of the press. The right to freedom of the press means that people have the right to report news and provide their opinions without the government censoring the information. This means that the paparazzi has the right to take photos and videos of celebrities, including Prince Harry and his family, and report the news to the public. Prince Harry's perspective towards The First Amendment showcases that he is against the paparazzi having all rights to freedom of the press. The Duke of Sussex believes that the paparazzi should have limited rights when it comes to reporting news about celebrities, so celebrities can get the privacy they deserve.
